The Story Behind Well: Crafting a Brand That Attracts, Organizes, and Generates Value

At Well, we are building a product that is as much a tool as it is a phenomenon – a supplier invoice magnet. This isn’t just any tool. It’s designed to function as a gravitational well, following the universal laws of physics: the more mass an object accumulates, the stronger its gravitational pull. In the same way, the more users we attract to our platform, the more powerful and valuable our product becomes.

It’s a viral force that attracts, organizes, and creates value from what once seemed chaotic. This is our vision: to be the invoices magnet that evolves in strength as we grow, offering businesses a way to move from disorder to clarity.

Gravitational Well: More Than a Metaphor

A gravitational well distorts space and time, and its attraction grows exponentially with mass. This concept inspired us to design Well as a self-powered attractor, pulling data from chaos into a new dimension of organization. Just as a black hole pulls everything into it, including light, we envision Well as a system that pulls disorganized data into a place of structured value creation.

Taking this metaphor even further, we looked at Einstein’s theory of relativity, hypothesizing that a black hole isn’t just a dead end—it’s a gateway to another dimension. Just as a white hole ejects matter into a new space, Well transforms invoices, creating value where there was once only disorder.

That’s the essence of Well. We’re creating a product that redefines the invoice collection experience, turning it into something organized and valuable for businesses everywhere.

Logo & Identity

Choosing the Logo: A Visual Metaphor for Gravitational Pull

When it came time to design the logo, we knew we needed a symbol that captured not just the name but also the essence of Well: attraction, organization, and power.

A great logo isn’t just a pretty picture—it’s a visual embodiment of a brand’s promise. For us, it had to reflect the strength of gravity and the pull we exert on the chaos of invoice management.

Our logo had to visually capture gravity’s pull and communicate the essence of attraction. At the same time, we knew it had to be memorable, simple, and instantly recognizable to our primary target market of Indie Hackers in the US.

Our design process was inspired by Sonos’ iconic 2015 rebranding, which used a moiré pattern to create a dynamic, almost hypnotic effect. This optical illusion mirrors the idea of something invisible (like sound or gravity) that nonetheless exerts a noticeable impact. We saw this as a perfect metaphor for Well: a force that might not be immediately visible, but one whose effects are impossible to ignore.

The final logo combines AI-inspired minimalism, a Moiré pattern effect, and a reference to the gravitational well concept. Together, they communicate movement, force, and a sense of organized structure emerging from chaos.

Our logo is an invitation: step into the Well, feel the pull, and experience how invoices can transform from chaotic to structured, from burden to opportunity.

The Logo: A Final Convergence of Ideas

Ultimately, our logo became a convergence of these ideas: a fusion of AI-driven design practices, the dynamic moiré pattern effect, and the gravitational well metaphor. The final design represents both the complexity and simplicity of what Well stands for: a system that gathers, organizes, and simplifies.
